Father's Day Wrap-Up

Good morning Friends and Followers!   Today for Masculine Card Monday, I thought I'd share a few pictures of the Father's Day gifts we gave my Dad.

First up, is this paper gift bag. I have a whole swack of these white gift bags, just waiting to be decorated.  I love adding patterned paper to these and making matching tags.  For Dad's bag (which was filled with candy, chocolates and imported biscuits) I added a canoe print paper.  I cut a Tim Holtz tag out of kraft paper, and attached a strip of leftover print paper down the side. Easy Peasy but still nicely coordinated.

I made an envelope using the Score Pal and another sheet of the patterned paper (Colorbok), and added Sizzix die cut letters to spell DAD.

Inside the envelope was some $$ for him to treat himself, and it was all packaged up as well.  The PTI panel was die cut then embossed. I use this die a fair bit - I love how it can hold a gift card, or the PTI gift card envy ... the curved slots cut with the A2 sized die.

In this case, I chose to make a gift card holder to put the $$ in, die cutting it out of kraft and layering another piece of canoe print paper to the front. Also a Tim Holtz bookplate for a fun touch.

Pop Up Star Father's Day Card

Today's share is my sixth and final Father's Day card for this year. I made this one for my Dad, using a Sizzix Pop N Cuts die for the card base and a star pop-up insert.

 

The paper is from a retired Stampin' Up paper stack. I love the colours and masculine prints of the double sided papers.

This star insert has been hard to work with, but I think if I use a crease mat it will work better.  This card was a lot of work (fighting with the star) but it turned out OK in the end and I'm happy with it.

After the card was finished, my (wonderful) Stampin' Up rep was able to get me the Stampin' Up Alphabet die set at a great price so I used it to cut out out the letters "P" and "A" and added those to the front star.  The Grandkids (and now the Great Grandkids) call him Pa.

Leafy Father's Day Card

I am having SO much fun with my Sizzix Pop N Cut die set, I used them again to make this card for Masculine Card Monday. 

This is the fifth Father's Day card I've made this year (three for me and three for my Mom.)

I used some (retired) woodsy patterned paper from Stampin' Up, and Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves dies as well.

Father's Day Flip It Card

Today's share for Masculine Card Monday is the 4th Father's Day card I've made for this year (my Mom needs three and I need three).  I used a Sizzix Flip-It die for this one, as well as copper and dark grey metallic card stock.

The old fashioned truck was Cricut cut, but it was in my 'Odds & Sods' pile so I'm not sure of which cartridge. I'm going to guess 'Sentimentals'.

I added some embossing for texture, and printed some of the words on the computer. "Enjoy the ride" is a PTI stamp. The printed words were then cut out with a Sizzix thin die

This Sizzix Rectangle Flip-It die gave me some grief - when I used it ALL the lines cut - not just the cut lines, but the score lines too. So I ended up with a bunch of pieces that weren't much good for anything. I did some research and discovered that it depends on your machine - either a Big Shot or Cuttlebug or whatever you use- as to whether or not it will cut through the score lines or not on your specific die.

The solution is to use a crease mat - which luckily I had.  I tried the crease mat instead of the top plate, but instead of cutting everything it just scored everything. So then I had to use an Xacto knife to cut out the pieces that needed to be cut.  Next I tried a card stock shim on top of the crease mat and that seems to have done the trick.

I wrote right on the die itself with a silver Sharpie marker, so I remember to use the crease mat and shim every time I use this one.

Owl Father's Day Card

 My set of red and white cards (seen HERE) won top honours this week - I'm so excited!

 

For Father's Day I have to make six cards ... three for me and three for my Mom to give out.  I shared one a few weeks ago that I made with a new Sizzix Puppy Dog die, yesterday's metallic card ... and today's card uses the Sizzix Owl die.

I thought this owl was so stinkin' cute when I saw it but haven't had the opportunity to use it very often. I decided to remedy that and had a blast working with masculine papers (SU) for my 5-1/4" square card.

I printed the words out on my computer, cut them out with a Nestabilities die then attached that piece inside the card.

I also added a strip of the same patterned paper down the side of the envelope.

Three down ... Three more to go.

Freshly Made Sketch #87

As soon as I saw the latest sketch (#87) at Freshly Made Sketches I knew what I wanted to do with it. A Father's Day card!

 Right off the bat I flipped the sketch so the vertical strip was on the right side.  I used a Sizzix Pop N Cut base die to cut my A2 card out of dark grey metallic, lightly textured card stock.

The vertical strip was trimmed from Kraft card stock, embossed with a folder then rubbed with dark grey metallic paste. I repeated those steps with copper metallic card stock and a Tim Holtz Tattered leaf die.

A 2nd piece of Kraft card stock was cut and stamped with it's coordinating polka dot stamp (Hero Arts) then stamped with Happy Father's Day (Verve).  Once it was assembled, I thought it needed a little something so I added a it of black/white Bakers Twine.

Lots of subtle shimmer on this card - it works great for a masculine card. I printed the words (Hallmark) on paper, matted it with a scrap of the metallic grey and rounded the corners before attaching it inside the card.

Two done ... four to go!

A Father's Day Dog Card

Today for Masculine Card Monday, I have a Father's Day card to share. I'm surprised at what I am able to do with the limited supplies I have right now.  :-)   I feel like I get to play a bit, and am still growing my card stash.  Win Win Win.

Last year most of my Father's Day cards featured stamped dogs, so this year I'm going to put my new Sizzix Puppy Dog die to good use.

This is a larger card, 5.5 x 6".  I used a wonderful new patterned paper package that I really just want to sit and flip through and never ever use at all.  But I'm trying to beat my hoarding instincts and made myself cut into FOUR different sheets to make this card.

I haven't figured out what to put inside yet, but there is still lots of time before Father's Day.

Another Dog Die

So I have a confession.  When my Mom offered to buy me the Sizzix Puppy Dog die (see HERE and HERE for cards using the die) she said I could also pick out a die for her to give me for Mother's Day.  YAY!

I did.  Yay!

I couldn't wait until Mother's Day to use it though ...  I know, I know. But it's SO cute!

We are going to have a house FULL of company in the coming weeks, and I had to buy another set of dishes. I kept a little bit of the corrugated cardboard from the packing material since I can't get into my studio so don't have a stash of fun things to use on my cards.  It worked out pretty cute for this first time using the Sizzix Scottie Dog die.

The kraft card base is from a packaged set (Hobby Lobby) and is slightly smaller than A2.  It is a really nice quality card stock though, so I can live with the size.

 

I didn't add any words to the inside, as I'm thinking of using this for one of our Father's Day cards. I will need six of them, as my Mom will need three and so will I.  Once I get back in my studio next month & check my card stash, I will know who this card will go to and can finish off the inside.

I have actually used this dog die a couple of times already! Last night I went to a friends for a dinner party, and I like to bring their dogs some treats. I used this Sizzix Dog die to create a cute embellishment for the front of the box, but was running late and didn't have a chance to take a picture before I left the house. I will share pictures of the other projects another day.

***Edited to add ... I decided not to use this for a Father's Day card and popped the card into my stash for when I need a masculine card.
