Kelsey's Birthday Card 2013

This is the birthday card I made for our middle daughter, who is very creative. She recently started painting again so I thought this image was perfect.

The card is a large one, 5.5 x 6" and I tried out the Cricut Craft Room for the first time. I am going to have to try it again before I decide whether or not I like it, as the shadows did not size properly. I never had that issue with my Gypsy.  I was able to make the cuts work though, and popped them up on the frame with foam tape.

"A Child's Year" is one of my very favourite cartridges, so it was fun to pull it out again for this card. I think she is going to love it, even though she is a grown woman!

Chick Easter Card

My Mom asked me to make her some Easter cards to send out, so I came up with this sweet and simple design:

The chick was Cricut cut from 'A Child's Year' cartridge - one from white and one from yellow. Since there was no shadow option when cutting, I offset the white one a little.

Silouette Christmas Card

I keep finding cards in my picture file that have not yet been posted ... today's share is one of them.

The red card base is 5" square, and the silhouette was Cricut cut using 'A Child's Year' cartridge. I love that cartridge!

The top layer was cut from black and the shadow was cut from red. Once they were attached together I spritzed the die cut with glimmer mist then popped it up onto the paper covered card front.

I stamped the verse inside with a Printworks stamp and red ink.

Ice Cream Card

Every year in July my Grandpa would take my Mom for an ice cream soda. I try to make her a different ice cream card every July to celebrate, and this is the one I made for her this year:

I used 'A Child's Year' cartridge for this card, cutting the silhouette out of black card stock and the shadow out of yellow. I added some red glitter glue on the top of the ice cream.  The label and card base were also Cricut cut, but I didn't write down which cartridges I used! 

The 5" square card base paper is two sided, and I like the different patterns on the card - it makes it so cheerful! I added some doodle lines and sponged the label as well as ran it through my Big Shot with the Swiss Dots embossing folder.

I blurred out the words inside for posting, but they were penned with a red Sharpie marker. I cut a small slit in the spine of the card, which allowed for the red grosgrain ribbon to be passed through and tied around the front of the card.

Now - it must be time for some ice cream!

First Birthday Card

My parents wanted me to make them a card for our Granddaughter's first birthday this month, and this is what I came up with:

It's a 5-1/4" square card, and the patterned paper block is embossed and glittered. I wrapped a ribbon around it, tied a bow and popped it up onto the white card base with foam tape.

A Child's Year is probably one of my most used Cricut cartridges. I have made SO many things with it, but they were posted on my old blog so won't show up again here. This little one in a high chair with a cupcake and one candle? Perfect for a sweet little girl's first birthday. I cut the main silhouette image out of black card stock and the shadow out of pink then glued them together. Finally, I added some glitter to the top of the cupcake to catch the light a little.

The lacy frame's size was adjusted to be longer with the Gypsy, cut out of white card stock then embossed with a folder. It was popped up with foam tape, and then the high chair image was popped up as well. I love it when we can hand deliver cards - look out foam tape!

I added another panel of the sparkly paper inside, and stamped the words (SU) in black. If I'd had my PTI Smoky Shadow ink when I made this card, I would have used that!  (The dark words are easier for my parents to read).

I sure had fun making this card, and my parents loved it too. It's just so hard to believe an entire year has passed already!

Black and Cream Silhouette card

I still have some photos of cards that I didn't get posted on my last blog, so thought I'd share one of those cards today. I haven't been in the studio in 2 days, so I don't have anything new to show.  :-(   I do have some knitting projects almost finished ('cause I've been in a vehicle a fair bit) but ... I haven't taken any pics of those. So ... here you go:

I used one of my very favourite Cricut cartridges ... 'A Child's Year' to cut the silhouette out of cream with a black shadow. The patterned papers are by K&Co and everything is mounted onto a side fold A2 card. The silhouette is popped up with foam tape. Ignore the watermark, which shows my old blog name.

I had done a whole stack of these 'black and cream cards, using various silhouettes from different cartridges. So fun ... I just love the detail in some of these Cricut cuts.

CFC 10 ... Shaped Card

 

So challenge #10 at Cas-ual Fridays (see sidebar for link)  is to make a Clean And Simple SHAPED Card.   I had to put my thinking cap on for this one, although now that I have looked through the amazing submissions I could have been more inspired had I done that earlier!  If you have a chance to swing by and see all the great shaped cards - do so. It's worth it!

I went with a Christmas card ... sized to fit into a #10 business envelope. The shaped card is Cricut cut from "A Child's Year" cartridge. I used the 'hide contour' feature with my Gypsy to hide the heart that would have cut out of the front as I wanted to add my own.  

The holly punch is by Emagination, and the heart is a Tim Holtz Sizzix die. Both are stamped with a background image (Stamps by Judith), edges are inked and doodling added with a brown pen. The heart was popped up with foam tape. I cut another bone shape slightly smaller, inked and doodled on the edges of that, then attached it inside with a red Merry Christmas greeting (DeNami Design).  The red envelope is stamped with a bone tree (Magenta) in hunter green, then the little bones were coloured with pencils. Totally a cute card to give a groomer, vet or dog care provider from your furry kid.  :-)

Originally I thought I'd add a smaller bone shaped panel to the front of the card, but when I decided not to I had a large bone die cut to add to my 'Odds and Sods' pile. Plus, I cut both heart shapes -- so I had an extra heart too. I'm trying to USE UP that pile, not add to it ... so I immediately put together this card to have on hand. Hope I don't have to use it for a very, VERY long time.

I was also able to use up a leftover piece of that digital cloud paper! (Digital Design Essentials)  The wings (Stampendous) were stamped with brown and coloured with Copic markers before cutting them out. I attached them to the back of the die cut heart after inking and stamping and doodling on it, then popped the whole thing up with foam tape. I loved the little tear drop gem (iRock) - it seemed fitting somehow. The words are by Technique Tuesday (Ali Edwards).
