ROYGBIV Octobr 2016 Designer Challenge

Good morning friends

It's time for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge, and this month it's: "ROYGBIV" - It's the monochromatic challenge but YOU pick your color from any of the colors of the rainbow. Make a card featuring predominantly Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo or Violet.

For last months Designer Challenge, Karen Burniston made the most amazing Twist Circle Panel Pop-Up card, with inspiration from her cousin Jessica. These Pop-Up panel cards have taken the paper crafting world by storm so I was pretty excited that she had come up with a way to make this type of card with a Pop-it Ups DIE instead of complicated measuring or template. There is a link to Karen Burniston's card and video at the bottom of my post today.

For my challenge card this month, I chose YELLOW.

The front of my card uses clouds from the All Season's Tree, and the new Labels and Circles. The patterned papers were in my stash, which worked out well. Love using up things from my stash.

I added Stickles around the edges of the clouds, and outlined the scalloped ring and the word 'Hi' with a fine point marker.

Here is a peek at the card as it is unfolding ...

And here it is completely opened up. Amazing how different the Twist Circle Pop-Up looks simply by extending the arms.

To create the large sun, I used the Circles and Labels set, and the rays are the triangle banners from the Anita Frames Pop-Up. I lightly doodled on each one then tucked it under the circle edges.

It's so much fun decorating all the little panels!

The first panel has Lucky the Rabbit. To keep it monochromatic, I coloured his ears, nose and feet with an orange pencil instead of pink.  I stamped words on the second panel and added glittered clouds to the third. The fourth panel has the little yellow woven basket from Props 7 with a heart inside, and a sun from the Oval Pull Card.

Note - because I love my foam tape, I popped the embellishments up. And I like the way that looks! However, it makes for a very thick card when folded up and one that will have to be hand delivered or sent with lots of extra postage. I'll have to remember to keep the images flat on the panels for mailing.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Designer Challenge team came up with for the rainbow of colours - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her post tomorrow, Tuesday, on her BLOG.

Dinosaur Love Notes

Good morning friends

I had a piece of sparkly dinosaur printed paper that I wanted to use up so made a Love Note for Ethan and Zachary. But I also wanted to make one for Ilai ... so all three Grandson's would get one. So I pulled out a small package of dino print paper and made a third card.

All of them have a die cut 'HELLO' on the front and the insides are blank for writing them each a note. Nothing too creative, just quick and easy but the boys will love the dinosaurs and getting Happy Mail.

Supplies:
White card stock
Patterned paper - Craft 'n Craatin
Brown card stock
Sizzix double sided adhesive
Hello die - My Favorite Things
Sharpie Paint Pen - White
Brown fine point marker - Le Pen (Marvy)
Sharpie
Patterned paper - Echo Park
Stamps - Stampin' Up

Card size - all, A2

Little Girl Love Note

Good morning friends

I found this journal card none of my paper stashes, so added it with scalloped borders to a folded white card. I've tucked it away as a Love Note for Olivia. Next I will have to make some boy ones, as I always send each of Grandkids a Love Note, not just Olivia.

On a personal note, little Olivia is not doing well and testing shows that the disease (Pulmonary Hypertension) has started to progress. They are back to bi-weekly visits to the Children's hospital and will work with the cardiologists & specialists adjusting medication dosages.  We will be babysitting her brother's for most of these appointments. Olivia is in a lot of pain as a side effect of the increased medication and is needing oxygen a fair bit these days. It must be frightening when you can't breathe ... and for a 5 year old, even more so.

Pulmonary Hypertension SUCKS.

Supplies:
Patterned paper - Echo Park
White card and envelope - Michaels
Sticker - Echo Park
Stitched Scalloped Border - My Favorite Things

Card size - 5-1/2 x 6"

Karen Burniston's July 2016 Designer Challenge

Good morning friends

Today is the first Designer Challenge for July. Karen Burniston is trying a new format, where she issues a challenge for the second Tuesday of the month and one of the Designer Challenge Team issues a challenge on the fourth. The Team will be posting their cards on the Monday and Karen Burniston will post her card and team post on the Tuesday.

This first challenge is: "Up!" - Let's get things airborne with high-flying cards featuring the sky.

There is no arguing with my inner Muse. This is what she wanted to make so I complied. Because the card is a Pop-Up, I kept the outside fairly simple. Using the Partly Cloudy Stage it Stencil, I outlined two clouds with a black pen adding some doodles and glitter.  The sun was done with glittered embossing paste, and when dry I went back in with the stencil and a fine point Sharpie and added the doodles.

Here is the inside - I like how bright and cheerful it is! The Lorna Label Pop-Up was die cut from white Soft Finish Card Stock, then stencilled lightly with the Partly Cloudy Stage it Stencil.

I added water colours to a piece of 90# water colour paper, then die cut the sun, clouds and oval when it was dry.

A little glitter along the bottom edge of the clouds and on the sunshine makes the card sparkle without being over the top. I added some hand lettering to one of the decorator labels that come with the Lorna Label Pop-Up and tied a yellow seam binding into a bow before adhering the inner card to the yellow backing card.

Supplies:

Partly Cloudy Stage-It Stencil - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Lorna Label Pop-Up, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
All Seasons Tree (small cloud), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Hot Air Balloon Pop-Up (clouds), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Oval Pull Card (sun), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Fun foam
Staedtler fine point markers
Sugar Glitter Paste - Bo Bunny
Yellow Seam Binding
Stickles
90# Water Colour Paper
Water colours - Peerless
Clear Double Sided Adhesive, 1/8" width - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Soft Finish card stock - 85#, Elizabeth Craft Designs
Black Sharpie

Card size - 4-1/2 x 5-3/4"

'Be Fierce' Pull Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is an Oval Pull Card I made using a new stamp set from Verve. I stamped the words in light grey, went over the printed letters with a marker and painted the brush lettering with water colours. My first time doing this and I will be doing it again for sure!

The notch at the top cuts with the die and keeps the card in the closed position until the recipient pulls the sides to reveal the inside. This card is larger, and will fit in a 5 x 7" envelope for mailing with a single stamp. I'm loving this larger card size, and the beauty of Pop it Ups dies is that YOU get to choose the size of your card, as well as where along the fold you place the design. Pretty darned versatile.

Here is the card opened. We will write our message on the solid white oval.

The boxing gloves were stamped on patterned paper then fussy cut. I made this as a Love Note for our daughter, who fights daily for our Granddaughter's survival with Pulmonary Hypertension.

Supplies:
Oval Pull Card, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
White card stock
Stamps - Verve
Staedtler Fineliners
Copics
Dr. PH Martins Hydrus Water Colours
Ribbon
Patterned paper - diana kappa

Card size 7 x 5"

Gorilla Hugs Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is a card I mailed to a friend. She has been a Docent at our zoo for years, and is spending many hours sitting with Zuri, our very sick Gorilla.

The leaves across the bottom of the card are actually feathers, and she gave me that idea. She came to visit me in Arizona this Spring and we were sharing our supplies and new tools. She had purchased a fun set of leaf dies which I used on a card with Jinks the Monkey (see that card HERE). Then she spied my feather's and said they would work as 'jungle' leaves as well. And she is right!

Just a little Happy Mail to let her know we are thinking of her.

Supplies:
Centre Step card die - Sizzix
Gorilla stamp - Rubber Stamp Avenue
Patterned paper - My Minds Eye
White card stock
Black linen card stock
Fun foam
Hand lettering
Staedtler Fine Point Markers
Fine Point Tweezers - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Hugs die - Papertrey Ink
Feathers (leaves!) Paper Smooches
Water colour crayons - Stampin' Up

Card size - A2

Latte Love Pull Card

Good morning friends

Today's share was made using scraps from my stamping table, and a new stamp set from Verve. There were two pieces of this pretty Paris themed glittered patterned paper, a half sheet of black card stock, half a doily, some pink card scraps and a die cut heart from a different project. And everything came together to make a card and help clear off the table. Gotta love that.

The sweet little coffee cup and stamped words inside are from Verve - this set was a prize I won from the Coffee Lover's Blog Hop, which was a lot of fun. The stamp set is one I will use a fair bit - there are so many cute images and words in the set. You can see the whole set HERE. Such an awesome prize!

I used the Spiral Circle Pull Card (SCPC) for the card base, and the notches still work to hold the card closed because they slide in behind the doily.  The recipient can simply pull the sides of the card apart to reveal the inside.

The top left heart was die cut into the cream stamped circle with a scrap of pink card stock in behind it. The second heart was die cut from another scrap of pink.

I really like the Latte verse ... it's not the typical Thanks a Latte and I will get a lot of use out of this one.

Supplies:
Spiral Circle Pull Card, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Black card stock
Paris patterned paper - Craft 'n Craftin'
Doily - Martha Stewart
Coffee Stamps - Verve
Heart stamp & die - Lawn Fawn
Stickles

Olivia's Ballerina Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

I have another card to share today, for our 4 year old Granddaughter Olivia. With her disease (Pulmonary Hyptertension), the families life can be very isolating. Our daughter will be home schooling Olivia and her young brothers, they don't go to the grocery store if colds or the flu is going around in their town etc etc etc. But Olivia really wanted to go to Ballet Class.

It's the only time she's been able to just be a 4 year old girl playing with like minded 4 year olds - all dreaming of being a ballerina. Our daughter waits in the parking lot during class with a portable DVD player for the boys, so she is close if Olivia's heart starts to do anything strange. After class, Olivia needs oxygen and can barely make it in the door before collapsing and going to sleep. But she loves to go to Ballet Class and I'm so happy she gets to take part.

The little tutu covers Olivia's medicine pump and other than the band around her upper arm holding the medicine tube in place - she looks like all the other girls in class. Haha, except she is the one going left when the group goes right, or holding up her right arm when the rest holds up their left.  Their recital is next month and I simply cannot wait! I made Olivia a card for the occasion and we will pick her up a bouquet of flowers before the recital.

Olivia loves pink (and purple) and when I saw these chipboard stickers I just couldn't pass them up for this card. I made a Pop-Up inside, using the Lucy Label Pop-Up by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. All the pink glittered paper was made using ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive and Peony Pink Silk Microfine Glitter. The patterned paper has glittery bits in it as well.

Accordion Ring Frame Edges helped create the glittery banners on the background, and I used the slot that comes with the Lucy Label Pop Up to add a tab for the 'pirouette' sticker.

Christina Bethlehem Photography did a little photo shoot and here is one of her photos of Olivia wearing her recital outfit.

Supplies:
Patterned paper - Die Cuts With A View
Lucy Label Pop-Up, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Elizabeth Craft Designs Clear Double Sided Tape - 2-1/2" and 1/8" width's

Jinks Centre Step Card

Good morning friends

I got a few new toys for my birthday -  one is the A2 Centre Step card. I recently had some playtime with a friend who also had some new goodies so I used her new leaves paired with Jinks the Monkey for my Centre Step card today.

Jinks is holding onto a banana in one hand, and a glittered heart in the other. I didn't add the detail layer to his face, which changes his appearance. The yellow layer was embossed with the bananas embossing folder, and inked a little. I added some pen work to the heart layers, leaves, heart and banana. Distress Stickles is what curled the leaves, also giving them a lightly glittered look.

Here is a peek at the inside, which was stamped with the Cheeky Monkey Clear Stamps by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

A2 Centre Step Card - Sizzix
Leaf - Kaisercraft
Yellow card stock - Stampin' Up

C4C325 - Spring Themed (St. Patrick's Day 4 cards)

Good morning friends

It's Saturday, and that means a new challenge on the Crazy4Challenges BlogFebruary's hostess is Peggy McCurry and the Guest Designer is Vicki Dutcher at allidoisstamp.blogspot.com

Here is Peggy's Challenge:
Spring is just around the corner, so let's see some Spring themed cards. For those of you "down under", feel free to do an Autumn themed card.

It's time to send the Grandkids a Love Note, so I thought I'd also make some to send next month as well and these adorable stickers got me started. I recently purchased a couple of Els' Fitted Frames (Elizabeth Craft Designs) and I'm having so much fun with them!

I cut the Curvy Ovals from white card stock, chose the ones I wanted to use and inked them with green die inks. The clouds were inked using one of Karen Burniston's new Stage-it Stencils, Partly Cloudy. Considering I'm a 'stencil newbie', that one is sure getting a work-out!

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd sure love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C325.

Supplies:
Blueprints #1 - My Favorite Things
White card stock
Patterned paper - American Crafts
Stickers - Doodlebug Designs
1112 Fitted Frames 4, Curvy Ovals - Elizabeth Craft Designs
1114 Fitted Ovals - Elizabeth Craft Designs

Karen Burniston February 2016 Designer Challenge Card #2

Good morning friends

Today I'm sharing my second card for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge "GLITTER!". This card went in a completely different direction than I initially planned, but I like how it turned out and it was fun to make.

I used my new favourite Pop it Ups die, the Hanging Charm Pull Tab to make a 5x 7" flat (post-card style) card. Below is the front with the card flat and ready to put in an envelope.

Since my initial idea was to make a farm themed Valentine, the glittered characters have red shadows.    The detail layers were cut in to the adhesive side of double sided adhesive backed white card stock, then glittered with Silk Microfine Glitter.

Below it the card with the Pull Tab open. Virgil is adhered to a piece of pearlized vellum that is attached behind the curvy frame. I accented the frame with glitter dots for even more shimmer & shine.

The cloud background was made using one of Karen Burniston's new Stage it Stencils ... Partly Cloudy. The clouds have glitter glue on their lower edges, and the extended pull tab was fussy cut around one of the clouds.

The word balloon is from the Lorna Label Pop-Up set, and the stamp inside the Pull Tab was selectively inked then coloured with pencil crayons.

Haha - don't you love a pink glittery Virgil?

Below is the back of the card, decorated with the rest of the fence pieces from the front of the card. I also added clouds and birds from the Partly Cloudy Stage it Stencil and sponged the grass with green ink. I'll write my message on this when I go to send the card. I'm thinking it will make a great Love Note for our daughter & husband. With all they go with with Olivia's Pulmonary Hypertension, I like to send them notes of encouragement so they know they are not in this alone.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the Designer Challenge Team has come up with ... their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her post on her BLOG tomorrow (Wednesday).

C4C 322 Card

Good morning friends

It's Saturday, and that means a new challenge on the Crazy4Challenges Blog. February's hostess is Peggy McCurry and the Guest Designer is Vicki Dutcher at http://allidoisstamp.blogspot.com

Here is Peggy's Challenge: National Kite Flying Day is coming up on the 8th . The challenge today is to use a kite or a kite shape on your card.

I didn't have any kite images or dies, so instead used a Pinwheel set to make Love Notes for the Grandkids. Joset has a really cute kite die set recently released at Elizabeth Craft Designs and that will soon be added to my collection. Now I can think of all kinds of fun reasons to use a kite!

I went over each of the coloured pinwheels with a Wink of Stella pen for some subtle shimmer and shine.

I used Karen Burniston's cloud embossing folder on the white panel of this first card. The Pinwheels are from the Stamps of Life, back when I was a club member. This is the first time I've used it!

The sweet little 'hello' is from the Rectangle Accordion Pop it Ups die set - that one gets a LOT of use.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd sure love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C322.
