Clean & Simple Thanksgiving Card

I have a quick and easy card to share today - it was one of the cards I made last year and put into my Thanksgiving card stash so I wanted to use it this year. I really like that polka dot paper!

 I die cut the pumpkin from the same patterned paper, and outlined it with a fine point marker.

Some matting, some foam tape - and I was finished. Sometimes Clean & Simple is the way to go.

Hybrid Thanksgiving Card

Our Grandson wasn't even going to be 3 months old at Thanksgiving, but since I made his sister a Thanksgiving card I wanted to make one for him too.

I printed a panel using Hallmark Card Studio onto light white card stock, trimmed and matted it with a textured orange card stock. That was popped up onto a royal blue folded card and I added Glossy Accents to the bears nose for a little somethin' somethin'. I also added some shading with coloured pencils so the image wasn't quite so 'flat' looking.

The words inside were done the same way - printed then matted and mounted onto the A2 card base.

This is our Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and - while hubby and I won't be able to celebrate with our family this year, we will sure be thinking of them.

This is the Thanksgiving card I made for my parents:

This is one of those cards that I made last year to have to send this Thanksgiving, so I'm a little fuzzy on the details.  I know that sweet scarecrow was Cricut cut using a file from SVG Cuts - a fabulous company that I used to deal with a lot.  It was from the Harvest Hill Farm SVG Collection.

Then the 'nice lawyers' at Provocraft decided that the only SVG files that could be cut with a Cricut would be theirs, and they took several companies to court over it.  So now, in order to cut any of my non- Cricut SVG files I have to buy a different machine.  (As soon as I get some room in the studio - I'll do just that, and I haven't purchased a single new Cricut cartridge since then.) Really, was there a good reason why everyone just couldn't play nice with each other? The 'big guys' had to make even MORE money and wanted the 'little guys' share? Bah.

Anyhow ..... I created a little scene for the scarecrow by sponging onto a white textured panel and inking the edges. A texture stamp was added here and there as well. To create the moon, I simply punched a circle out of white scrap paper and discarded the punched piece.  I laid the paper scrap over my panel, and when I had the cut-out circle where I wanted it, I sponged yellow ink through the hole.  When you remove this scrap paper mask, you have a yellow circle - or, moon!

I added some pen stitching, inking, a small paper flower and brad, and used an embossing folder on the body itself. This little guy is so cute - he made me smile every time I looked at him!

The scarecrow was mounted with foam tape onto the scene panel, which was mounted with foam tape onto a patterned paper panel - then onto the A2 card base.

Bronze Embossed Pumpkins Card

I do have another gift card holder & birthday card to share, but since this is our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend I thought I should go back to posting our Thanksgiving cards.  I used the pumpkin embossing folder again, this time with a beautiful orange shimmery Stardream card stock. Beautiful stuff. When you use a shimmery, heavy card stock like this - the card is very elegant and has a whole different feel than if I'd used regular card sock.

After embossing the trimmed panel, I wrapped it with bronze sheer ribbon and tied it off in a pretty bow.  I don't often add full bows to my cards!  I did line the envelope with a card stock panel so it would go through the mail OK.

I stamped the verse in orange inside the card - I am really loving the new Tangerine Tango shade of orange from Stampin' Up!

Coloured Leaves Thanksgiving Card

I have another Thanksgiving card to share today, that went into my parents card order:

The leaf was stamped with brown ink and coloured with Copic markers. I punched it out with a circle punch, backed it with a punched scalloped circle and mounted it over the patterned papers with foam tape.

A simple card, but it works well for Thanksgiving!

Paper Pieced Pumpkin Cards

I admit it.

I make cards ahead.  I already have 3 cards done for next years Thanksgiving, and will post them tomorrow as they are for my Dynamic Duos Guest Designer post.

I have all the Thanksgiving cards I will need for this year for ourselves and my parents, but the desire to make fall themed cards is still there. That's how I end up with cards made ahead of time, because any fall/Thanksgiving cards I make this season will be put away for next year.

These cards are a bit of a cheat, since they were posted on my old blog when I made them. Then they were put in the box to send out this year. Since they haven't been posted on this blog yet, I'm sharing them again.

I made three almost identical cards, even though I only photographed two of them.  Such an easy technique, but so effective! I die cut the pumpkin three times, using 2 different patterned papers and one time with rust coloured card stock. These were stacked together, then sliced into 3 pieces using a metal ruler and Xacto knife.  I die cut three more pumpkins out of kraft card stock to use as the base, and coloured the pumpkin stems with a green Copic marker.

All the pieces were inked, then they were reassembled onto the kraft bases giving me patchwork pumpkins. A bit of faux stitching and ... done. 

As for the supplies? The die is a Sizzix one, but I honestly can't remember who makes any of the other supplies. This would be a fun technique to do on a large leaf, a Christmas stocking etc etc.

Lotsa Turkeys Thanksgiving Card

This is another Thanksgiving card for my parent's card order ... the foil turkey stickers  catch the light when the card is turned.

I stamped the Hero Arts shadow stamp in a pale yellow ink, and when it was dry I added the turkey stickers (Sandy Lion). That panel was trimmed then matted with red and tan card stock then wrapped with a red satin ribbon.

The whole thing was added to a white A2 card base. I didn't tie a bow, but instead a knot. It will still need a card stock panel to line the envelope, but the knot will stay put as it goes through the mail.

Embossed Pumpkin Thanksgiving Cards

While it doesn't show up in the photos, the orange panel is a shimmery textured card stock by Bazzill. I love how nicely it embosses with an embossing folder -- so crisp! These are two cards that went into my mom's Thanksgiving card order.  The shimmery orange matches nicely with the subdued avacado A2 card base.

I wrapped the panel with a bit of sheer orange ribbon, slipping in an Avacado card stock punched label below the knot.

One of the colours of card stock and ink I ordered from Stampin' Up was Tangerine Tango. I used the ink to stamp the inside white panel - and I really REALLY like that shade of orange!

Dynamic Duo's Challenge 19

We will probably not be able to join our daughter and family for Thanksgiving this year, so I decided instead of a card for the Dynamic Duo challenge this week I would make a wine bottle hanger. They can hang it on their dinner wine and know that we are with them in spirit.

I don't have any Cajun Craze, but I did get a package of Canyon Clay back when I placed my Papertrey Ink order and it seems pretty close. I usually have some Always Artichoke - it's one of those go-to-greens in my studio. These colours just say AUTUMN to me! 

I used the Papertrey Ink wine bottle die as the base, cutting it out of Canyon Clay. I cut it again out of Always Artichoke, lining up the edge of the green with the fold line on the die. Then I trimmed a little off the top and each side so the orange would show through on the base.

Almost everything on this project is by Stampin' Up!  (I'm such a fan, ha ha).  The pretty fabric brad is from my stash, and I added a little Stickles (spread with a brush).

The flower was made by punching a piece of the Canyon Clay, running it through a crimper several times to break down the fibres, then pulling the card stock apart. It reveals a lovely suede like texture!  (Thanks Vicky for reminding me about this technique - see her post HERE).

I see in the photos that the words are stamped crooked! Sheesh - I even used a stamp positioner. I will be popping that off and replacing it with one that is straight. I should have stamped first THEN punched it out around the words.

Hybrid Card for Freshly Made Sketch 50

I wanted to make a cute card for our Granddaughter for Thanksgiving, but I don't have any cute (toddler) stamps. I thought about firing up my Cricut, but then I remembered that I have a Hallmark Card Studio installed on my Very Old Windows Laptop.  Perfect!

I also checked out the latest sketch at the Freshly Made Sketch Challenge Blog, and decided to combine it with the Hallmark image.

I chose not to use the embellishment from the top left in the sketch though.

Two full images were printed onto heavy computer paper, then one was glued to white card stock for stability. I fussy cut the little raccoon from this second image to layer onto the full printed one. But - I didn't use foam tape, I used one of my Action Wobbles!!!

I think Olivia will get a kick out of  this 'boinging' racoon.  I know I do.  :-)

 

The card started out as 6" square, but when I was laying out the pieces I decided to trim off 1/2" from the right side. It worked much better for the sketch that way. I was able to use my new Wisteria Wonder card stock for the matted layers, and a textured embossing folder (Stampin' Up) on the brown banner. Also, I added some orange Bakers Twine.

 

This was such a fun sketch to use, and I can see lots of different ideas for it.

Card for the Freshly Made Sketch 49

Good morning everyone!  We had company this weekend, and I just couldn't break myself away to sit at the computer and update my blog.  So today I'm uploading the card I made to upload on Friday.

I had wanted to play with sketch #49 at the Freshly Made Sketch Blog - but this card fought me every step of the way. I finally decided to cut my losses, call it done and move on.  Now I see that some of the photos are blurry too! Sheesh.

 

Since this card would be going through the mail, I decided not to do a square card and instead went with a 5x7 creamy card base.  I die cut (Sizzix) several different leaves to layer onto the strip but they looked too crowded so I culled them down to three. The strip originally had a cream base matted with the burnt orange - but I couldn't get it to look good so finally just turned it over and went with the burnt orange strip. I should have known then that this card was not going to work out well.

 

The leaves were layered with foam tape (patterned paper over card stock) and I added some glitter glue for pizzazz.  

There was this leaf just sitting there so I broke away from the sketch and popped it up above the sentiment with foam tape. It sort of blends into the patterned paper background, which is what I wanted. I didn't glitter this one.

Finally, I added a white panel to the card inside (since the card bases are somewhat flimsy) and added a leftover card stock leaf die cut to the inside. I will add a verse closer to Thanksgiving and when I know who I'm sending this one too.  

 In browsing around my favourite challenge blogs today, I see that two of my cards last week were chosen for special mention. Waa Hoo!  After the struggles and my lukewarm feelings  towards today's share, this news came at a great time.
