Ice Cream Birthday Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is the birthday card I made for our Granddaughter. Even though it's a bright and cheerful card, I am in tears as I write the post. Grateful tears. If you follow my blog, you know that Olivia was diagnosed with advanced Pulmonary Hyptertension in September of 2014 when she was three years old. The disease is rare, extremely rare in children and is often misdiagnosed. Which is why it ended up being so advanced by the time they discovered it. Pulmonary Hypertension is terminal - there is no cure. Words I could barely get my brain around for months.

Because of the amazing cardiology care at Alberta Children's Hospital, and Edmonton's Stollery Children's Hospital (not to mention her parents) we are celebrating Olivia's 5th birthday. There was a time when we didn't think she would make it to see four so once again I can say this birthday is a Very Big Thing.

It's been a year of ups and downs with a couple of scares. But that little girl is a PHIGHTER, as are her parents and her doctors. They continue to keep the disease from progressing too quickly and we are grateful for every single moment we have with her.

When Olivia was born and the nurse handed me this tiny precious bundle ... I said "hello Sweetness". I've called her Sweetness since that day. It was fun to tie that in with her Birthday card this year.

I used Joset's Ice Cream Cone die set, another new purchase from Elizabeth Craft Designs. The banner on the front was hand drawn, and I did the hand lettering inside as well.

HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY, SWEETNESS!

  1. I'm in tears reading it. Tears of sadness for the unfairness of kids with terrible diseases and yet tears of joy that she is surrounded by so much love. So many people believing in her, helping her fight for every birthday. A grandmother who I have long since determined is an angel on earth! Love to your family and Happy Birthday to Olivia.
