February 2015 Designer Challenge Card #2

Good morning friends

I hope you enjoyed checking out all the creations from the rest of the Designer Challenge Team yesterday.  Today is Day Two of the Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge for February, which is:  Artsy or Cutesy - Which way will you go? Feel free to do both. Cards should lean very artsy fartsy, with inks and textures and quotes about the soul (or whatever) OR very cutesy, like puppies and kittens and rainbows and sprinkles.

I chose to do a second artsy card. Now I rarely make a card just to make a card. There are so many occasions and celebrations in our family, and I make the cards for my parents to give out too - so my cards are usually made with someone specific in mind.  This one is for our middle daughter's birthday, and I chose to feature the new Tags Pivot die. I used it HERE for her husband's birthday card, and I know she will enjoy seeing how different the two cards look even though they were both made with the same Tags Pivot Pop it Ups die.

See the right edge? It is the piece that was leftover when I cut the Agatha Edge on the inside of the card. It was the perfect size to fit on the front of the card, so I inked the edges and adhered it. Love it when there is no waste.

I added a pretty seam binding bow, since the card will be hand delivered instead of going through the mail. The 3-d embellishment stickers were in my stash and they worked perfectly for this card.

Here is the card opened ... with the Pop it Ups Pivot dies, the decoration on the front pivots to the inside and decorates that as well. So fun, not to mention easy.

I used the Happy Birthday layering dies from the Happy Birthday Pop Up for the upper left corner, cutting them out of patterned paper and inking the bottom of each word before adhering it to the card.

I used another piece of the patterned paper and one of the Agatha Edges to make a pocket on the right edge of the card. Since I had used Karen Burniston's Damask embossing folder on some of the tag layers, I embossed a scrap strip of patterned paper, inked the edges and added that to the right edge as well.

One of the Decorator Tag Dies from the Tags Pivot was inked and stamped with the birthday greeting, then tucked into the pocket. While it's hard to see in the photo, I also added a strip of 1/8" (3mm) ECD Transparent Double Sided tape beside the embossed strip and added Silk Microfine Glitter to it. It catches the light when the card is opened and is a pretty addition to the card.

The little flourish is from the Katie Label Accordion set. I cut two, adhered them together and then adhered them to the card with a Glitter Dot on the top layer.

I also cut the spinner that comes with the new Rectangle Pull Card and used it to animate the 3-d bird embellishment. I love that all the Pop it Ups dies work so well together.

The banner die comes with the Lorna Label Pop Up. I stamped the words then cut the banner then I inked the edges and adhered it over the layered tags. Then I added the tiny butterfly that comes with the Butterfly Pivot die set. The butterfly was also inked and has a Glitter Dot in the centre.  You know I love my Glitter Dots!

Since our daughter & hubby are building a new house, and her birthday will be right around their possession date, we are going to give her a gift of money or a gift card so she can choose something special for their new home. I made a coordinating Gift Card Holder to go along with the card.

This was made using the same measurements as yesterday's post ... the patterned paper was cut to 4-1/4 x 12, and scored at 4-1/4 and 9".  I used the same Agatha Edge as I used on the card to cut the one end. Then I just inked and added layers until I was happy with it.

I hope you enjoyed my Artsy Cards for the Designer Challenge this month, and that you get a chance to check out what the rest of the Designer Challenge Team created too.  Remember that Karen Burniston will have her post on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog tomorrow.
