C4C 250 Animals

It's Saturday, and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges blog!  Helen Cryer is our hostess for August, and she asked us to make a card with an ANIMAL, but no bunnies or bears. I chose to make a dog-themed birthday card for our son's girlfriend.

The cute pawprint & heart were paper pieces and attached to a Lorna Label panel, and that was popped up onto the striped card base. Some of the stripes are glittered, which I thought was cool.

While they didn't end up getting a Bulldog, she loves the breed. I know she is going to get a kick out of these two sweeties!  I've had this sticker for years so it was fun to be able to finally use it.

I added a bunch of banners (two stamped) along the bottom pop up ledge.

Masculine Spiral Circle Pull Card

Good morning friends!

It's Flip-It Friday here on my blog, and I have a Z-fold flip card to share today. I used Karen Burniston's Spiral Circle Pull Card (SCPC) to make a masculine Birthday card for our nephew.  I LOVE this die … I hope you checked out Karen Burniston's Wednesday post on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog to see her video using this die. It's SO versatile!

In the pictures above and below, the card is in the closed position. There are little notches that hold the card closed until the recipient pulls the sides to open it. Such a cool feature! The men's shirt and tie is a Peel-Off that I attached to water colour paper then LIGHTLY coloured with water colour pencils. I wanted more of a hint of colour than full strength. Then I fussy cut it out and popped it up on the centre circle.

Here is the card pulled open.  I used the little beer mugs that came on the same sheet of Peel-Off's. The 'froth' has Glossy Accents, and when that was dry I fussy cut the mugs out to attach to the spiral. I added some gears from the 'Clock and Gears' die set to decorate the flip-side of the circle.

When I first saw the picture of this die Karen B sent the Designer Challenge Team, I thought - well, snowflakes and butterflies would look good. But now I keep finding all kinds of things that work great on the spiral! I mean, if Beer Mugs will work - the sky's the limit! (Yes, I've already done one with clouds). Wink.

Poppy, Katie Accordion - Fall Colours

Good morning friends!

Today's share is a card I made awhile ago - as soon as I received the new Character and Accordion dies by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.  There was also a new Holly Edge for the new Katie Label Accordion, but I chose to cut them out of natural card stock and added fall colours with markers. Love it when a die does double duty!

Oh I love Poppy the Owl.  I cut the body out of patterned paper and the shadow out of kraft, then outlined the body with a fine point black pen to make it pop. I also added Glossy Accents to her eyes and beak. I went over the stitch lines with the same pen so they would really show up even more.

The flourish comes with the Katie Label Accordion, and here I used them as accents above and below the 3-d sticker. I added some hand lettering to the sticker, a button and a little heart. The heart cuts with the Poppy character.

Finally, here is the view from the top and from the back.  I haven't written on the label on the back yet … will wait until I send the card.

I also outlined the labels with both a fine point black pen and a Copic marker to make it look like they had shadows.

You Make My Heart Happy

I  made a second card for Karen Burniston's August 2014 Designer Challenge, which was to use one of the new Character dies. I chose Poppy the Owl (named after the entire Pop it Ups Design Team, since most of us love owls). I paired Poppy with the Heart Pivot for this one.

I perched Poppy on a trimmed All Seasons Tree, turned on it's side to use as a branch. Before adhering it down though, I stamped it with a custom background stamp. After it was attached I stamped my favourite dot stamp in pink and brown.

I love showing different ways to use the Heart Pivot, other than just for Anniversaries and Valentine's Day. This one says "U" and "make my heart HAPPY".

The words were done by hand lettering, and the tiny heart cuts with Poppy.

The cloud dies come with the All Season's Tree, and I cut them from white textured card stock and layered them with foam tape.

The PROPS die set has such fun additions for the Characters, such as these eyeglasses.

This was one of those cards that practically made itself - into my stash it goes!

Karen B Designer Challenge: Hoppy, Poppy or Chilly

I had SO much fun making this card for Karen Burniston's August 2014 Designer Challenge, which was to use one of her new Character dies. I chose Hoppy the Frog and paired it with Karen's new Spiral Circle Pull Card die (SCPC) … only I made a double pull card with a fun surprise inside.

Here is a look at the card in the closed position.

The balloon dies come with the SCPC and you get two balloons so you can cut multiples quickly and easily.  The bow is from the Props die, which has lots of fun props for the Characters.

When you open the left side of the card, you are treated to Hoppy wearing pink glasses (also from the Props die set).

But wait … Hoppy jiggles and wobbles, because she is attached to the card with an Action Wobble!

Boing … who doesn't love an animated card that has a BOING feature?

 When you open the right side of the card, there is a second Hoppy … and she is also attached with an Action Wobble.

 I altered the "a" on the Happy Birthday die cut to read HOPPY instead of HAPPY, and added the cute pink hat just for fun.

The SCPC is SUCH a versatile die … I'm so impressed with the different looks you can get from it. Remember with any of the Pop it Ups card dies - YOU get to choose the size of the card and where on the fold you want to place your animation.

These dies are really popular and we have been having SO much fun with them.

Notes - the base card stock was cut to 5-1/2" high by 10-1/4" wide, and I scored 3-1/2" from each side. The SCPC was cut on each score line, using the alignment nubs on the score line. I added 2" strips to each of the outer flaps (the dotted paper), and a 1/4" wide strip down each side as well (striped paper).  The striped circles on the outside flaps need to be cut in half or the card won't open properly. I cut one 3" striped circle, and added half to each of the front circles butting the cut edge up against the 2" panel. The inside centre panel (dotted) is 2-3/4 x 5".

Rose turns 101!

Good morning friends!

When Seniors Secret Service asked me to make three special cards for their August Birthday's, I was more than happy to say YES!  Here is the first card, made for Rose who is turning 101.

I used the Lorna Label pop up die (yes, AGAIN) and I really like how I was able to add her name to the lower step portion.

The two roses on the lower half of the card were fussy cut from another piece of the patterned paper and adhered to the base before attaching the label.

I love the sparkle and shine of Glitter Dots, and I really like that there is no bulk as they are flat stickers!

I hope Rose enjoys her special birthday - her 101st!
