Valentine Sketch Card

They've done it again! The latest sketch at the Clean and Simple Stamping Blog is right up my alley, and lends itself to many different occasions.  I'm INSPIRED!  Here is what they had to say about their sketch:

"Here's the sketch! Although I show 4 elements on the card, the idea is to just have a repeated element more than 3 times. I was trying to do something different from the usual clean and simple trio."

 

Wanting to use the Stampin' Up heart punch I got on their clearance rack, I decided this would be a perfect sketch for a Valentine card.  My Martha Stewart border punch also got used for this A2 card.

 

I just couldn't leave it alone though, and added Stickles around 2 of the hearts. I also used foam tape, of course.  The words are by Anne Made Designs. Inside, is a white panel matted with red and another punched heart.

Square Engagement Card

I made this 4.25" square card for our daughter and her fiance to congratulate them on their engagement:

 

The card has three different (sparkly) patterned papers and was made almost entirely out of scraps from the (seemingly unending) DCWV  paper stack. I thought it was a good layout, and could be swapped out for lots of different papers and patterns for several occasions.

I used MFT dies for the labels, and the word is stamped with a Gina K stamp in black ink. I used foam tape on the different layers.

The message was written inside, to the right of the patterned paper strip. I wish all the glitter showed up in the photos, as it is SO pretty!

Bird Birthday Card

One of my long-time pen pals is celebrating a birthday this week, and today's post is the card I sent off to her.

A long time ago, I found these pretty cards on clearance at Michaels. They are by K&Co - and are patterned tri-fold cards - 5x7" with lovely cream envelopes. There were 5 different patterns in the package, and this was one of them:

I had these sweet stitched felt stickers (by Martha Stewart)  from when I decorated a bedroom lamp for our grandbaby, and since my friend loves birds - the bird sticker was perfect.

The felt border stickers are also by MS ... the paisley paper is by K&Co and matches the cards very nicely.

The first picture is of the card closed.

Here is the card with the front open! I used my Cricut to cut the scallops from the same patterned paper that is on the front of the card. The card is double sided, with the gingham being the flip side of the harlequin.  

The label punch is by Stampin' Up, and the words are by Verve.

After hoarding these cards for years, it was fun to break them out and USE them!

3-D Butterfly Card

Before the holidays, I bought a package of butterfly dies by Spellbinders. Each butterfly has 2 dies - a solid base and a more delicate top layer. Like there was any way I was going to pass THOSE up?

I needed to make a card yesterday (for sanity's sake) but of course it had to also be quick and easy. I dug the orange and pink patterned paper strip out of my scrap bin and this the card I came up with:

 

The butterfly was cut out of white card stock, then I stippled orange and pink ink on it so it would match the patterned paper.  The butterfly base was cut from a pink glossy card stock scrap, and I used my iRock tool to adhere gems to the center of the butterfly. The two were joined together in the center only so I could lift the wings.

 

Papertrey Ink makes the scallop die and the wonderful Canyon Clay orange card stock. My new favourite colour.  The stamp is by Paper Smooches.  

I am entering this card into the open challenge at "Flutter By Wednesday's". I'm sure they get tired of my CAS cards over there, as there are some really fancy entries every week. But hey - I have a butterfly on my card and it qualifies!

We got to see the wedding venue yesterday, and it is so pretty! Now that we are into February the countdown is ON!

Sketch Birthday Card

This week's challenge at the Less Is More blog, is to create a CAS card using their sketch. And a few rules:

"We would like the card to be

• rectangular
• in landscape orientation
• with the band remaining in a vertical position 

As it's a very simple sketch,  we would like it to remain as is without any rotation of either the card or the vertical band."

 This is another card, where I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I saw the sketch. Here is my card for my Masculine Card Monday:

Exactly as the sketch!  Tree and grass dies by MFT. Word stamp by Gina K. Cloud stamp by Hero Arts.  I found in on clearance and just KNEW it would come in handy. I also used a 4 x 6" card, rather than an A2 and a rainbow ink for the sentiment. The card is a textured, and a very pale grey. Nice for a change!

Felt Snowman Trio

I had to dig out my studio, so I spent Friday evening doing just that.  There wasn't a square inch of area that wasn't covered with STUFF, and it was driving me crazy.

In tidying up one pile, I came across 3 felt snowman stickers. And I remembered the latest sketch at the Clean And Simple Stamping Blog. 

The blue snowflake paper was in the same pile, so this card came together really quickly! (Sorry for the blurry photo above - I was using my phone as we were in a hurry to get out the door).

The sentiment is by Papertrey Ink. I finally caved and placed an order with them as I love their stuff  but not their shipping costs. However -- sometimes you just have to swallow the shipping. Then to my surprise, they refunded me $10 on the amount. Yeah!

Since Jasper ate my favourite Merry Christmas stamp, I thought it was time to find a new one. This set comes with a Merry Christmas as well as the Happy Holidays.

Butterfly Aperture Card

Here is the challenge this week at the Less Is More challenge blog: 

Onto this week and it's theme time, we have chosen

"Cut it Out"

For this we would like to see some kind of hole or aperture in your card!

Hmmm.

Sitting on my stamping area was the pretty white embossed square card, tied with green seam binding. It was a sample I made for our daughters invitations when I thought they were going with green. I LOVE the Stampin' Up colour Pear Pizzazz. Love it.  Anyhow - I decided to use it to make my card for the challenge!

 

I used a Martha Stewart anywhere punch to punch a butterfly shape out of the folded card, then a scrap of music printed tissue (Tim Holtz) to back the window.

 

I cut panels of Pear Pizzazz and white textured card stock and mounted them inside the card. 

 

I stamped a music score inside the card in Momento Bamboo ink, inked the punched out butterfly with the same ink, and added 3 flat stickers  to the center before popping it up with foam tape.

The word stamp is by Gina K.

***EDITED to add, that this card also qualifies for the challenge at Flutter By Wednesday's blog, which is to use embossing on your card as well as a butterfly, angel or fairy.

I'm probably not going to post much in the next couple of days. I'm not getting into my studio hardly at all - I've had this card done since Sunday - because I'm busy with appointments, errands and other things related to the upcoming wedding.

Oh, and VET visits. But I think we have our Brandi girl on the road to recovery now. The vet wanted her off her pain medicine (arthritis) since it was starting to affect her kidneys. She also wanted her on a special food - and I am NOT a fan of the foods that is for sale at veterinarians. However, wanting to do what was best for Brandi we gave it a shot. Not only did Brandi refuse to eat it after the 3rd day, it upset her stomach. Badly.

The pain medicine must be very powerful, as a week off of it and she had deteriorated so much it was like she'd aged 3 years that week. She was wobbly at her back end, and in obvious pain. The new meds were doing nothing to help her and she could barely make it up the stairs. In fact, she couldn't make it up in one go, she needed to stop and regroup before she could continue the rest of the way up.

Tuesday, the vet agreed that she needed to go back on the Metacam, at a much smaller dosage, and we will supplement with another pain med. Today Brandi can go up the stairs without needing to stop, and her wobbles have all but disappeared. 

Now we work on the food issue.  Ahhhh the joys!
