Cabin in the Woods

 I am going to try to stay away from challenges this month. June is going to be crazy busy around here, and while I will be in my studio I need to be focusing on items other than challenge cards. Come July I'll get back at it. Please forgive me for not keeping up with my comments on your blogs this month.

I have a CAS (Clean And Simple) card to share today for Masculine Card Monday here on my blog. I made this card with my Dad in mind!

This Stampscapes image is from the Mesa Rubber Stamp Show back in March and have been itching to get it inked up. First I inked it with blue ink (a custom ink pad), then 'kissed' it with black before stamping onto white card stock.

I love the random, two toned colour it gives.  The A2 card base is Baja Breeze (Stampin' Up). After trimming the cabin image, I matted it with black then popped it up onto the card base.

The card was easy enough to do, but I think it looks very classy and still masculine. I'm sure my Dad will enjoy the image and the memories it's sure to stir up.

Cactus Silhouette Card

You can enter the challenge at the Craft A Scene Blog up to three times, so I have another one today that also fits into my Masculine Card Monday:

While it looks larger in the photo, this is an A2 card with a kraft card stock base.  The blue (Baja Breeze by SU) was embossed with a SU texture embossing folder.

The scene image (Ink Blocks) was stamped with Momento Rick Cocoa ink onto white card stock, then I placed a punched circle mask in the area I wanted the setting sun to be.  The sky was created by dragging inks with a sponge across the panel and when I removed the paper mask the sun remained white. I've been doing this 'swooshing' technique for many many years, and never get tired of it's effect.

'Swooshing' (her term) always reminds of my pen pal Impi Sawchuck, who not only taught me this technique - she was featured in rubber stamping magazines back in the day. She was spectacular at 'swooshing' and one of the first stampers to do it. She passed several years ago, but her techniques live on.

The words (SU) were stamped with brown ink on a white card stock scrap, the bookplate (Tim Holtz) was die cut out of kraft card stock, inked then the words attached behind it. The waxed string was a piece recycled from something I purchased and there was just enough to tie onto the embossed panel.

This is one of the cards that I made for Father's Day, and I know my hubby will appreciate it.  :-)

Silhouette Scene Card

First, I must apologize for the terrible quality of this photo. With the black card base, I don't know what I was thinking trying to photograph it on a black background! Ahh well.

I am entering this card into the challenge at the Craft A Scene Blog, which is to create a scene with a silhouette. I used a matte coated card stock, and a torn paper mask to sponge the hills. The trees and birds are by Stampscapes, and I'm not sure who makes the word stamp. Spellbinders makes the border die cut, which is cut form a pretty pearlized purple paper.  Oh, before I did the stamping I brayered the background with several purple die based inks.

I also thought this would be a good time to repost a photo I took in October 2011, of my hubby and BIL kayaking on the Lake Of Bays in Miskoka Ontario at sunset.

Masculine Scenic Birthday Card

Well here I am with another masculine card. I could have waited until next Monday to post it, but I wanted to enter it into the "Anything Goes" challenge at the new Craft A Scene blog.

I haven't done a scene card in a L-O-N-G time, and it felt good. I need a card for my Brother In Law's upcoming birthday so I hope he likes it as much as I liked making it.

Once the scene was stamped (Momento Rich Cocoa ink) and coloured (Copics, & pencil crayons blended with mineral spirits) I cut it out with a Spellbinders die.  The card base is 5x7", from a package of them I found at Wal-Mart. Since the background paper is from a 6x6" paper pack (Prima), I trimmed the 7" side of the card to measure 6.25" so the borders around each side of the patterned paper would be even. The card still fits into the matching envelope without looking like it's too small.  :-)

I used my large crimper on the 2nd label shape, a tool I haven't had out of the drawer in ages. Years, probably. I inked the edges and added foam tape to the label shapes, and then I had to decide where to add the words. I know I don't usually add words to the front of my cards, but I wanted to on this one.

The word stamp and label punch are both by Stampin' Up. The scene stamps are from my collection: house from Stampendous; ground by PrintWorks; pebbles and foreground trees by Stampscapes; sky by Graphic; others unknown.

Since the card stock base is rather wimpy, I added several panels to the inside as well which made it nice and sturdy.

I will hand write the words and a note inside - I only have so many birthday verse stamps and I'm pretty sure I have used all of them over the years  -- especially with men's cards.
