October 2016 Team Designer Challenge

Good morning friends

This month, Summer has the theme for our Designer Challenge "Boy oh Boy" ... think rough and tumble, boys will be boys, masculine or manly - no girls allowed! 

Once again I used the Twist Circle Pop-Up with Karen Burniston's adaptation to create a Pop-Up Panel Card for the challenge. (Link to Karen's video at the bottom of the post).

How fun is this type of Pop-Up! I decorated each of the little panels with various clear stamps by Karen Burniston, and stickers from the same package as the boy themed patterned papers.

I'm going to save this card for our Grandson Zachary's birthday as it's just perfect for him.

Dinosaur Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is the birthday card I made for my parents to give Ilai for his birthday.

Inside is a Pop-Up, using the Lorna Label Pop-Up by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I knew I had to get those fun dinosaur stamps when they came out (Stampin' Up). Living in Alberta and having three grandson's ... they will be well used.

Ilai went to Drumheller this summer and LOVED it, so I knew this card would  be perfect for him. When Kelsey opened it to show him, he smiled and said RAWR.  Happy heart.

C4C 355 Birthday Pull Card

Good morning friends

It's Saturday  so that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog. Our September 2016 hostess is Raquel Mason and our Guest Designer is Fran Sabad.

Raquel's son Jake celebrates his birthday today, so her challenge is to make a Birthday Card for someone you love. Our son had a birthday this month, so this is the card I made for him using some fun beer stickers from my stash.

I started my card with an A2 patterned card - pattern on the right side and and the solid coloured back on the left. These cards are white inside, and they are perfect to use for any of the Pull Cards by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. 

As is, it would create a 5-1/2" square card. I trimmed 1/4" off each side for a 5 x 5-1/2" card which fits perfectly into a 5 x 7" envelope for mailing.

I stamped the banners with Karen Burniston's new Occasions Clear Stamps, then die cut them with the coordinating die in the Anita Frames Pop-Up. The banners were strung with bakers twine.

Father's Day Bear Card

Good morning friends

It's Masculine Card Monday here on my blog and I have a square Bear card to share today.

I found these bear images at the Mesa Rubber Stamp Show in the Spring. There are several bear images, and they work so well for masculine cards. The embossed birch panel was swiped with metallic Pan Pastels for just a touch of shimmer.

Inside there are two fussy cut fish tied together with Bakers Twine, and the large area for a greeting. The fish come in the same set as the bears.

I ended up doing some hand lettering inside and gave this card to hubby for Father's Day. Funny thing though, I forgot to sign it after doing the lettering so he joked that I can give it to him again next year. Ha!

We have out of town guests, and went for a drive in Kananaskis on Friday to enjoy the beautiful fall colours and sunshine. We were lucky enough to spot a Grizzly! One other car had pulled over and respectfully took photos from their vehicle as well. We sat and watched her feed for over 10 minutes and were completely mesmerized. A real highlight of their visit! I always call in those types of sightings, and apparently we were watching Grizzly Bear #152 - a real beauty.

Masculine Twist Circle Pop-Up

Good morning friends

Today's share is heading to Sri Lanka where we sponsor a young fellow through World Vision. He likes to receive hand made cards, and I aim to please. :-)

I used the new Twist Circle Pop-Up by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs, see how the card looks as it's being opened?

When the card is fully open, the centre embellishment twists up to the centre of the card. It makes you want to open and close the card several times!

I love the little Banners that cut with the Anita Frames Pop-Up but to make them even more special, you can stamp them in any colour you want with the coordinating stamp in the Occasions Clear Stamp set! Here I embellished the banners with red die cut stars from the Happy Birthday Pop-Up.

Moose Birthday Card

It's Masculine Card Monday here on my blog, and today's share is the card I made for my Mom to give my Dad for his 88th Birthday.

I love this moose stamp, and thought he would look especially good in a party hat.

I used the Props 2 by Karen Burniston for the Party Hat - it works for lots more than just putting on a Pop it up Character!

Dad doesn't have a lot of fine motor skills, but he sure appreciates it when he knows I've made him a card. This one made him smile.

Dinosaur Love Notes

Good morning friends

I had a piece of sparkly dinosaur printed paper that I wanted to use up so made a Love Note for Ethan and Zachary. But I also wanted to make one for Ilai ... so all three Grandson's would get one. So I pulled out a small package of dino print paper and made a third card.

All of them have a die cut 'HELLO' on the front and the insides are blank for writing them each a note. Nothing too creative, just quick and easy but the boys will love the dinosaurs and getting Happy Mail.

C4C 348 Baseball Card (NEW RELEASE)

It's Saturday and a new month so that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog.  and a new hostess! Our August 2016 hostess is Jessie and our Guest Designer is Danielle Vincent and Alexis Crossland-Smith . Yes, we are happy to have TWO Guest Designers with us this month. Even more inspiration for you!

Here is Jessie's challenge this week: 

My first challenge is an OLYMPICS challenge!! This year the Summer Olympics are in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil...and other than really making me want to go on vacation, it always makes me feel a little patriotic, I don't know about you?!! Oh, and I ADORE the logo for this years events!!

My challenge is to make a card either inspired by the Olympics colors: the red, blue, black, green, and yellow, or you can make a sports related card!!

Just have fun with it!!

My challenge card uses the Twist Circle Pop-Up, one of the NEW dies by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. So far I've shown a Halloween card, a Christmas card and here is a masculine Baseball themed card using the same die. Love that they are completely generic and can be used in so many ways.

Our nephew loves baseball, in fact went to college on a ball scholarship. So when the new release also included Sports Charms ... I knew what I wanted to do for his birthday card.  Here is a peek at the front of the card ...

See that cute little baseball? I added some red to the embossed stitches with a fine point marker, then popped it up on the circle charm with some foam tape.

When you start to open the card, you get a glimpse of a sideways larger baseball.

And when the card is opened all the way, the baseball twists and pops up in the centre of the card.

To make the baseball, I die cut a circle, then moved the edge of the die over and cut the circle into two pieces. They were mounted onto a black circle base with pen stitching. I have a chevron border die, which I cut from red card stock then used the pieces to add to the baseball for additional stitching.

Since we needed a place to sign the card, I added another baseball to a stitched rectangle. I could have left it plain, but I love that little baseball from the Sports Charms!

C4C 347 Stand-Up Pull Card

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog.  Our hostess for July is Joanne Grzelak and the Guest Designer is Alexis Crossland-Smith Scrappin’ Sistah
Here is Joanne's challenge this week:  I love the ocean (thus the name of my blog).  Spending time there brings me peace and joy. Make a card depicting the type of place that brings you peace and joy.

I couldn't figure out what to make for the longest time. I always say that Arizona is 'my happy place', so I was trying to figure out a SW style card. Then, as we were driving home one day and I said to hubby - "I'm so glad we moved out here (to the country) - I love living here".  I've said that to him literally hundreds of times, but this time I went 'AH HAH ... now I know the theme for my C4C card! It's impossible not to feel peace and joy living in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

I used the Rectangle Pull Card by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs to create a Stand Up Card ... below is the card folded flat and ready to put in the envelope.

It was time to give the Tim Holtz Treeline a little love, so I combined it here with the Western Edges (Karen Burniston) and her Cloudy Day Stencil.

Carole at PaperPastimes in Calgary was good enough to hand deliver my Show Samples of Karen Burniton's newest release to Els at the Trade Show in Salt Lake City, and when I dropped them off to her I managed to pick up two new word stamp sets. This card uses one of them for the 'C'mon get HAPPY'.

You can see how the card stands for display, which is a cool feature of this type of card. It's always fun to find different ways to use the dies you may already have, as shown here with the Rectangle Pull Card. The cool thing about the coloured Soft Finish Card Stock at Elizabeth Craft Designs, is that it is white on the reverse side. Perfect for making a card like this!

C4C 346 - Picnic Connection

Here is Joanne's challenge this week:  July is National Hot Dog Month, probably due to the number of picnics that occur at this time of year. Let’s have a picnic ‘connection’ on our cards this week.

I have had these stickers in my stash for a couple of years so this challenge was the perfect time to use them The gems fell off the stickers where the BBQ controls would be ... so I added some glitter dots instead. 

The card base is the Hanging Charm Pull Tab by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. It folds completely flat for mailing ...

... and when you pull the tab the BBQ stands up for display and reveals the stamped greeting.

Usually I make cards for specific people, but I didn't have anyone in mind when I made this card. So the back of the card was left blank and that way I can add what I want when I go to send the card.

Father's Day Oval Pull Card

It's Flip-It Friday here on my blog, and I have a Z-Fold Father's Day card to share today using the Oval Pull Card by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

I had just received my Stampin' Up order and wanted to use this cool airplane stamp so this is what I came up with.

The Oval Pull Card comes with optional Slot and Slider dies and I chose to use them here to animate the plane. I added some pen lines on the card, including the little heart trail on the slider arm. There is a similar stamp in the set, but I wanted to doodle this one.

As you pull the sides of the card, the notch releases and you get a glimpse of the inside and how the Slot & Slider work.

Moose Hello Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is a quick card that is on it's way to Sri Lanka, to a little boy we sponsor through World Vision. We had been driving home from the Farmers Market and there was a moose in a field off the highway so I was inspired to use this Moose stamp. It was one of my purchases from the Mesa Rubber Stamp Show (Stamps by Judith) - honestly, I could buy every one of her animal stamps. LOVE them.

The 'hello' was die cut from a metallic card stock, and I added a glaze pen on the eyes and nostrils. It's showing up in the photo as a glitter, but it is a clear raised finish.

I wrote a note inside, and thought he might like one of my completed Zentangle tiles so that went in as well.

Ethan's Robot Birthday Card

Today's share is the birthday card I made for my parents to give our Grandson Ethan for his birthday this month.

This large robot sticker was in the same package as the patterned paper, so I attached it to white card stock then fussy cut it out. The robot is attached to the front of the card with an Action Wobble.

I used more stickers for the inside so it would all coordinate, as well as stamping.

C4C 343 - Lighthouse Card

Good morning friends

It's the first Saturday of a new month so that means a new Hostess and challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog.  Our hostess for July is Joanne Grzelak and the Guest Designer is Alexis Crossland-Smith Scrappin’ Sistah

Here is Joanne's challenge this week:  "I have just returned from my annual trip to Maine. One of my favourite places on Earth is Nubble Light, a beautiful lighthouse in York, Maine. I could sit there for hours looking at and listening to the ocean. This week, let’s honour lighthouses on our cards. If for some reason you do not have a lighthouse image, then create an ocean scene."

I'm loving Els' Fitted Frames series and used the Curvy Ovals in black here for some POP and also the Fitted Ovals. The corners were punched from black card stock and I used one of the negative punched shapes to trace a corner in each corner of the envelope, then added pencil shading. I was happy with the effect.

While my water coloured background did NOT turn out as I had planned, I decided liked it enough to continue on with my card. I had a negative lighthouse Peel-Off image that worked perfectly with the background.

Inside the card I added the Buoy Peel-Off and more punched corners. The Buoy has some orange (Copic markers) and more pencil shading. I didn't add a greeting or sentiment to the inside, but will when I go to mail the card.

Masculine Birthday Card

Good morning friends

Today is Masculine Card Monday here on my blog, and my card share is one of the cards I put in the card set for my dental hygienist Anne.

The photo card stock is from a stack I found on clearance and I only used a portion of the 12 x 12" sheet for this card. Anne really liked this card, so I think I will use this idea of splitting the patterned paper panel again.

Below, the chevron border is die cut from the beige Astroparche panel so the Kraft card background shows through.
