Designer Challenge Happy New Year Card

Good morning friends

Welcome to the second Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge for December 2016 - this time teammate Sandy Diller issued the challenge:   Team theme - Sandy Diller - "Party Animals" - use any of the Character dies for a card celebrating the New Year or anything else!

For my card, Jinks the Monkey is off to a Black Tie New Years Eve Party where he has just tossed his top hat into the air so he can catch a glass of pink champagne.

I used this cool patterned card stock with embedded glitter, along with kraft and red card stocks. Love this colour combination!

When you pull the tab, the oval slides up for display, revealing a penned greeting underneath.

Jinks is popped up with three layers of foam tape, but I still needed to curve his hand and the top of his head up slightly, to slide the oval back into place.

This is a flat, post-card style card, but I did add some pattern and colour onto the back where I'll write my note & add our signatures.

Another peek at Jinks ... his black bow-tie and snazzy glasses are embellished with Glitter Dots. I cut his face piece 3 times from kraft card stock then layered them together for dimension. The top layer got some glitter from a Wink of Stella pen - because any monkey going to a New Years  Eve party should wear some glitter. Ha! Jinks also has a sparkled bow on his tail.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Designer Challenge Team, which are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her post tomorrow (Tuesday) on her BLOG.

***NOTE:  I will be moving my cards and paper crafting to Painted Mountain Cards in the New Year. I will leave this blog open, as there are frequent hits from Pinterest and over 5 years worth of cards etc to reference.

Halloween Pull Tab Card (NEW RELEASE)

Good morning friends

In Karen Burniston's NEW Halloween Collection, there is a set of Halloween Charms. They work for lots of embellishing simply by trimming off the hang hole - but with the hang hole they are perfect for the Hanging Charm Pull Tab. Which is how I've used it for this card.

To decorate the black frame, I added some metallic pen doodles, and two corners have three layers of the bat from the Halloween Scene stacked then brushed with a Wink of Stella. The spider has a penned string and is also 3 layers high with Wink of Stella and green metallic eyes.

I stamped the word PULL on the tag from the Steam Punk Clear Stamps and coloured it with markers, and after the pumpkin was assembled I used a metallic gel pen inside the face openings and on the stem.

When the tab is pulled, the little charm dangles in the centre of the frame and the greeting (hand lettered) is revealed. The photo below gives you a better look at the layered bats and spider.

Because I make these as flat, post card type cards I also decorate the back a little. (Note, I signed my name as this card went to Els for a Trade Show and there wasn't room for one of my 'handmade by labels')

The spider was die cut from the cream panel, then backed with the black one. It's subtle, but I like the depth this gives. I penned green eyes on this spider too.

C4C 346 - Picnic Connection

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog.  Our hostess for July is Joanne Grzelak and the Guest Designer is Alexis Crossland-Smith Scrappin’ Sistah
Here is Joanne's challenge this week:  July is National Hot Dog Month, probably due to the number of picnics that occur at this time of year. Let’s have a picnic ‘connection’ on our cards this week.

I have had these stickers in my stash for a couple of years so this challenge was the perfect time to use them The gems fell off the stickers where the BBQ controls would be ... so I added some glitter dots instead.

The card base is the Hanging Charm Pull Tab by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. It folds completely flat for mailing ...

... and when you pull the tab the BBQ stands up for display and reveals the stamped greeting.

Usually I make cards for specific people, but I didn't have anyone in mind when I made this card. So the back of the card was left blank and that way I can add what I want when I go to send the card.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd sure love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C346.

Cocoa the Horse Birthday Pull Tab Card

Good morning friends

Today I'd like to share the birthday card I made for our 'Daughter In Law' who loves horses. The first photo shows the card folded flat and ready to put in the envelope.

I used the Hanging Charm Pull Tab for the card base, adding a layered rectangle to cover the frame and make it a solid panel for embellishing.  When the tag is pulled, the Cocoa horse scene stands up and reveals a sentiment below. I did add extra card stock strips to the reverse of the 'arms' before assembling, so the weighty panel would be easily supported.

I like to add some decorating to the reverse of my HCPT cards, since I make them as flat post-card style cards. Here is the back of this one ...

Full of Bears Pull Card

Good morning friends

I had ordered some Stampin' Up goodies in the early Spring, and one of my sets is this adorable bear stamp and die set.

I wanted to work ahead and use the bears to make a Grandparent's Day card for my Mother-In-Law. I used the Hanging Charm Pull Tab by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs for the card base, then added the stamped, coloured and die cut bears. One little bear for each of her Great Grandkids!

When you pull the tab, the label stands up with the Great-Grandma and two of her little ones ...

... and the greeting is revealed.

Here is a side view so you can see the stand-up portion a little better. You can also see that I used the little Postage Frame from the Rectangle Pull Card folded in half for the pull tab.

I penned the words on the back side and the card is ready to be mailed in September. I always remember to make the Grandparent's Day cards, but I don't always remember to mail them on time. Going to write it down in my planner this year. Ha!

I had so much fun making this card ... probably due to the fact that I made it the day after my dental surgery with the assistance of some really good pain killers.   Note - Because the decorated label is fairly heavy, I reinforced the pull tab 'arms' with strips of card stock on the underside.

There was a communication error about my new RA medication, and it looks like it won't be delivered until today. The nurse has also been rescheduled to later this afternoon. This is going to be fun - looks like I will be required to have a two day 9am - 5pm window where I have to stay home and wait for the meds. Every month. Hmmmmmm. I'm thinking they should at least be able to narrow it down to ONE day. Time will tell I guess. I just want to get better.

Supplies:
Hanging Charm Pull Tab, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Rectangle Pull Card (postage for pull tab), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)

Pull Tab Card with Spotted Dog

Good morning friends

Earlier this Spring I ordered two sets of Echo Park dog dies online. I used the first one HERE and have only used it that once. I'm used to the care that Karen Burniston puts into creating her dies, packaging & assembly photos (and videos!) but  found trying to assemble that dog die - with only a 1/4" black & white fuzzy thumbnail very frustrating. The final dog was also much smaller than I expected. While I'm sure I'll make it again, it is a die set that I regret purchasing.

Last week I decided to try the second dog die and am happy to report that it was much easier to assemble. It still only had the 1/4" thumbnail but the pieces were much larger and easier to figure out. Plus, it's a larger size when completed and I WILL use this one again for sure.  I like how crisp the dog looks, so paired it with equally crisp patterned papers and the Hanging Charm Pull Tab.

When you slide up the pull tab, the dogs stands up and reveals the stamped sentiment. So fun!

Because I make these flat post-card style, I like to add some flat decoration to the back as well.

Into my stash with this one.

Hey Chickie Pull Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is a Birthday card made using the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

I added Cheepers the Chicken holding a balloon on the front - the Swirlydoo from the Rectangle Pull Card makes a great balloon string!

When you slide the tab at the top, Cheepers stands up and reveals the penned greeting.

Because I tend to make these flat, post card style cards I add a little decorating to the back as well.

Today is my consult with the oral surgeon, so hopefully all goes well and we can get on with things. Everything is stalled on my new RA drug but I'm thinking everything will line up for me to start on them once this abscessed molar is removed and my jaw has healed. Fingers crossed!

Supplies:
Hanging Charm Pull Card, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)

Baby Boy Pull Tab Card

Good morning friends

Today's share is a card I made for Els to take to the Collins Retailers show, using the COMING SOON Baby Charms for the Hanging Charm Pull Tab. Of course, I'm sure you've seen all the wonderful ways the Designer Challenge team has been using the charms - there are three new sets being released... Baby, Wedding and Steam Punk.

This is  definitely one of those cards that is better in person. The largest panel is shiny embossed, and the houndstooth pattern is actually flocked. You just want to reach out and touch it, it's so sweet.

I added a little decoration to the pull tab with the COMING SOON Petite Flourish stencil.

There are going to be coordinating stamps as well - for each of the new charm sets!! While I wait for them I decided to add some hand lettering to be revealed when the tab is pulled.

My dentist appointment yesterday actually went differently than my dentist had hoped. I am now referred to an oral surgeon who will extract this abscessed lower molar. I'll be slow to heal because of the RA drugs - never mind the extra risk of infection with a suppressed immune system. So once the tooth is removed, we will just be letting my jaw heal until December when we can decide how to proceed. The good news, is that I'm not too sore today and functioning well!

This is actually the first time since I was diagnosed with RA that my immune system has been an issue so it's a little surprising to me at how everyone is reacting. Guess I should be taking it a little more seriously myself.

Remember to check Karen Burniston's BLOG today for her May Designer Challenge Post.

Baking Buster Pull Tab Card

Good morning friends

I owe someone a very belated Birthday Card, so decided to use Buster the Dog and the Hanging Charm Pull Card together.

Love that Bakers hat from the Props 8 set (all by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs) and you can find all kinds of reasons to add a slice of cake to a card.

I stamped the words from Just A Note Clear Stamp Set and added colour with pencils. Since the blue polka dot paper isn't very sturdy, I added narrow support strips to the back arms of the pull tab mechanism.

I usually make my Pull Tab cards flat, postcard style - and I like to decorate the back a little. I will write my message below the scalloped circle.

Supplies:
Buster the Dog, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Props 8, Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Oval Pull Card (small circle), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)
Ring Accordion (scalloped circle), Pop it Ups - Karen Burniston (Elizabeth Craft Designs)

C4C333

Good morning friends

It's Saturday, and that means there is a new challenge on the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog. Our March Hostess is Rebecca Ednie and the talented Teresa Kline from Paperie Blooms joining us as our Guest designer. I've been a long time fan of Teresa's so I'm excited she can join us! Here is Rebecca's challenge:

April Showers bring May flowers! Please use some springtime flowers on your card or project this week! I can't wait to see all of your daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, crocuses, cherry blossoms and all the others I've not listed!

I chose a pretty Spring time floral patterned card stock from a new paper stack and of course I used the Hanging Charm Pull Tab for my card.

The top of the tab was extended then punched and tied with seam binding. The butterfly is hanging from a 2 ply of Baker's Twine which is sandwiched between another frame. The gold bling is simply decorative. The butterfly body was cut from a scrap of black velvet adhesive paper, then the wings were glittered after a little pen work.

Joset's banners were one of my early Spring purchases, and I've used one of them here with some more bling. The words were hand lettered.

When you slide up the tab, the greeting is revealed ...

The card is a full 7 x 5", so there was lots of room for embellishing. I did a little doodling on the card back, and this is where we will write our message.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd sure love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C333.
