Dog Sympathy Card

Maria, from her Creative By Design blog, left me a comment on my Puppy Trio post. I went to her blog to return the favour, and I was amazed by the number of American patriotic cards she has made from sketches.

Sketches from blogs I had never heard of, so I spent a bit of time poking around on them. I saw the sketch from the "Freshly Made Sketches" blog, and had to play along.

I stamped the dog image (Magenta), and used water colour pencils and a damp paintbrush to add the colour. A little Glossy Accents on his nose and I left the panel to dry while I took my dog to the vet. (Nothing serious, just old dog stuff).

However, there was a man there whose dog wouldn't be going home again, and there was such a sense of sadness there. You can tell how much these people care about their clients and patients, and of course that affected my mood greatly.

When I had time to go down and finish up the card, this is what I ended up with. Even though I need to top up my stash with sympathy cards, this is one that I really hope I don't have to use. Not for years and years and years.

I used scraps of paper from a lovely vintage looking paper stack (K&Co), and the words are by Technique Tuesday. I cut the dog image out with a Nestability die and added the blue with chalks and a craft pom pom. That keeps the colour nice and soft looking.  The card is a 4.5" x 6" soft grey textured base, not an A2 size.

I love this image, with it's sketchy outline. Perfect for the randomness of water colours. I'm going to have to use this stamp again and make it a HAPPY card. I may even use the sketch again, as it's a great one for using up scraps of coordinating paper.

Another idea would be to use the same colour card stock panels as the card base, and just emboss each one with a different texture ... oh, another sketch where I have more ideas than time.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  2. Love the card you made. I also hope you don't have to use it anytime soon. Love the coloring.
About 7 months ago I lost my 3 month old puppy to a pitbull. My heart was so crushed so I know people feel when they lose their pet. And talking about the vet office when I took my pup to get her shots they had a dog in there and he was bad off they had to put him down when they told the little girl her dog wasn't going home she started to cry. Let me tell you I cried with her...

  5. What an adorable imagef and you're right: perfect for watercoloring. I sure hope you don't need it anytime soon. And so sorry to hear about your experience at the vet. Our furry friends are so important to us it's hard to watch someone lose a loved one.
